Digital Technologies

At OLGC, we believe that a strong Digital Technologies program is essential for preparing students to be confident, capable, and responsible citizens in an increasingly digital world.

Research highlights the importance of developing digital literacy and problem-solving skills from the earliest years of schooling, as these form the foundation for future learning and
participation in society (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2022; Broadbent & Papadopoulos, 2013).

Our program is carefully structured across the school:
● Prep–Year 2: Students have access to shared iPads, which support hands-on, collaborative learning experiences.
● Years 3–6: Students use 1:1, school-managed Chromebooks to deepen their learning, create digital solutions, and engage in authentic problem-solving tasks.

Digital Technologies is taught as part of the specialist STEM program, where students explore coding, robotics, design, and systems thinking in engaging, age-appropriate ways. Cyber safety is explicitly taught at every level, ensuring that students learn how to interact online with respect, responsibility, and awareness of their digital footprint (Office of the eSafety Commissioner, 2021).

Through this program, students at OLGC build creativity, critical thinking, and resilience while learning how to use digital tools safely and effectively. We believe that by embedding digital skills within a broad and future-focused education, our students are empowered to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
