At OLGC, we believe every student can learn numeracy when teaching is informed by the science of learning and supported by strong evidence. Research shows that students achieve best when mathematical concepts are taught explicitly in carefully sequenced steps, supported by worked examples, guided practice, and opportunities for independent application (Sweller, van Merriënboer, & Paas, 2019). We value regular cumulative review, spaced practice, and formative assessment, which strengthen memory and understanding (Agarwal & Bain, 2019).

Our curriculum is knowledge-rich and coherent, ensuring that mathematical ideas build logically over time (Ochre Education, 2022). We are committed to implementing high-impact strategies—explicit instruction, structured practice, and responsive feedback—that have been shown to improve outcomes for all learners (Rosenshine, 2012; Australian Education Research Organisation [AERO], 2022). Guided by the MACS Vision for Instruction, we aim to provide every student with consistent, equitable, and engaging mathematics learning that builds confidence, fluency, and deep understanding (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools [MACS], 2024).
