Student Wellbeing

Developing the Whole Person

The spiritual, social, emotional and physical wellbeing of our students is pivotal to the continued development of the whole person.

Wellbeing

OLGC is committed to building a community of faith and learning in a safe, nurturing and academically engaging environment. At the heart of our endeavours is the student. Fundamental to successful learning is student wellbeing, where the development of a positive growth mindset supports the diverse and changing needs of every child. Staff at OLGC play an integral role in encouraging wellbeing and engagement so that students are able to learn at their best. Circle Time takes place in all year levels to model problem solving strategies and self reflection.

Social and Emotional Learning is taught across the school to reflect student need and develop student values consistent with the teachings of Jesus. We actively promote the social emotional learning of every OLGC student so that they:

  • show respect for themselves and each other
  • build positive relationships
  • demonstrate expected behaviour through critical thinking and making good choices
  • accept responsibility for their choices
  • reflect, problem solve and learn from their actions

Student Wellbeing Leader

Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School wellbeing program is overseen by the Student Wellbeing Leader. Staff creates a positive school community that promotes the wellbeing of all students to contribute to their academic success. We educate the students using the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) learning materials cover eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all primary levels of  education: Emotional Literacy; Personal Strengths; Positive Coping; Problem Solving; Stress Management; Help Seeking; Gender and Identity; and Positive Gender Relationships.

Student Services

Through a school referral process, students have access to services provided by Catholic Education Melbourne including speech, psychology and educational advisors. OLGC will also accommodate students and families who may wish to attend private occupational therapy or speech therapy during the day, while at school.

Student Referral Support Group

The student referral support group includes the Principal, Deputy Principal, Learning Diversity Leader and the Student Wellbeing Leader and meet regularly to assist teachers and parents with any concerns that may arise in relation to a student’s development and wellbeing.

Psychologist

A Psychologist attends OLGC one day a week so that students and their families can be further supported. Referrals are made confidentially through the school Psychologist.  Please contact the Learning Diversity Leader or Principal for more information.

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart...

....it’s the manner in which it’s delivered. Our teachers actively and passionately explore the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.
